Mine, All Mine

Okay, so you've seen my stuff for other designers, now this is just my personal work. Masks, mostly, but i do some painting, too. The mask is one of my most favorite things to make. They can have so much personality.

I have many and they are all crammed together. Perhaps one day I will do some single shots of them.

And here is one of my paintings. I love skulls and bones and enjoy doing paintings of them as well as collecting them. And that is Raymond the Zebra hanging out at the bottom.

STELLA, my neice. Such a cutie pie.

And this is my brother and i as kids. Nice tie, bro.

And my brother and i with Hendrix the poodle. My dad loved Jimi.

Fishy in a Zebra Pile Up

Well, I am not the most sparkly fish in the sea, but this is me, at work, in my usual grubbies. Well it saves on the cost of clothes and makeup.
And this is Gort in his previous home. Now he is living the high life in Sacramento. I think he is very happy there. Winter was tolerated, but never his thing. But he did get lots of love

The Show That Will Not Die

Well, I should really not complain, because it certainly keeps me employed, but sometimes I just get tired of doing these puppets and masks over and over....

The rest of my furry family. Shedding is quite an issue at my house.

This is Nubis, he is 14,
he is the needy and pathetic
one who follows me everywhere,

and Rorschach, he is 7,
his other name is pain-in-the-ass,

and Poppy, the scared-y cat,
who is 3 and still won't let me near her. But she is in love with Desi dog, so that makes me happy. she is the one that had a pop can stuck on her head as a stray kitten, she has some issues, but we are bonding.

ICHTHYOLOGY...... The Study of FISHY!

Specimen 4815162342: Proptartia Artiflakium.

Very rare sighting. Spotted June 03, 2008 @ 11:45pm EST leaving Room 23. Known to obsess over all things LOST, careful planning allowed this encounter after weeks of tracking. Generally thought to be quite stealthy and easily missed, this particular specimen seemed slightly drowsy and sluggish, perhaps due to the lateness of the hour. Will attempt further sightings, now that regular patterns are being established.

Okay, that was a long series of photos

sorry, i hope i didn't bore anyone. i just love my job. perhaps a little too much.

So This Is What I Do

So I've given tidbits of what I do, but this is what I really do. And really like doing. This first one is 7' 8" tall. I sculpted and painted him. This is the complete set. The only one i didn't sculpt is the smallest one.
This is what they look like lit up. They were cast clear so they were like giant lanterns in the end. They had that spiritual glow.
a closeup
This one is the head of a dragon puppet.
These are is his arms. We named him Winslow.
This is the sculpted base for a horsey. It is very lean because of what happened next...

The rope horse.

This is a 'throne' carved out of styro. Side view.

Front view. Makes me think of an orchid. This is it in its clear finish with lovely backlight.

This last bunch is a series from start to almost done. A giant styrofoam carve for the translucent grotto hangout of Ariel. And just a few of the artifacts that were being attached to it.

And we're done!

So we finished the soft goods last week. It is nice to not have to crawl around on the floor placing and picking dots. So here is pre-dot removal...

and after dot removal. isn't it purdy?

And this is after the final touches on the golden one. It doesn't look like much here, but the texture just makes you want to fall into it. It is thick silk, too, so it moves beautifully.
Pizza the Face! She is so silly.
A pizza party is always fun with the kiddies. This is my cutie niece, Stella.

Happy Mother's Day

In honour of Mother's Day, I thought I would post a pretty photo of my sweet girl, Desi who I treat better than most people treat their children. This is her at the cottage....
And also a photo of me and my mom. Without her, I would not exhist, and for that I thank her a great deal. Happy Mother's Day. For good or bad, your mom helped get you here. Thank her for it.

This Has Been My Week

So this is a taste of my week.
It has been a week of trips to the overcast beach with my dog Desi, painting silk, going to the opera, obsessing about LOST and BSG, and just generally being silly. Not terribly exciting, I know, but it is mine and I thought it was a-okay, except for the crappy ass traffic getting to and from work. But I'm going to try to forget about that. It's the only way I will manage to do it again next week. I shouldn't complain, I'm going against traffic. My house is in the city downtown (Toronto is a bit like New York in that people live in the core of the city), but my work is just outside of it.
My dog, Desi, is 10. I have had her since she was a wee pup of 4 weeks old. She is still mostly energetic and, as always, a bit of a delicate flower for such a big dog. The beach and snow are her two favorite things, so she's pretty happy all year round.
I took my dad to see his very first opera. I chose a pretty fun one, The Barber of Seville, and it was hilarious and pops actually enjoyed it. I think even he was surprised. He's all about Rock and Roll, but he's willing to experiment more in his older years.
Okay, this is boring, and I'm really not awake quite yet. I just really wanted to practice a bit and try posting some photos. Oh, by the way, that last one is me. One of my many portraits of specimen 'proptartius artiflakium', this is one at work with my ear protection on. I figure if you have to wear it, it may as well be fun. I am planning on starting a whole line of fashionable safety gear.
