Okay, that was a long series of photos
sorry, i hope i didn't bore anyone. i just love my job. perhaps a little too much.
So This Is What I Do
So I've given tidbits of what I do, but this is what I really do. And really like doing. This first one is 7' 8" tall. I sculpted and painted him.
This is the complete set. The only one i didn't sculpt is the smallest one.
This is what they look like lit up. They were cast clear so they were like giant lanterns in the end. They had that spiritual glow.
a closeup
This one is the head of a dragon puppet.
These are is his arms. We named him Winslow.

This is the sculpted base for a horsey. It is very lean because of what happened next...
The rope horse.
This is a 'throne' carved out of styro. Side view.
Front view. Makes me think of an orchid.
This is it in its clear finish with lovely backlight.
This last bunch is a series from start to almost done. A giant styrofoam carve for the translucent grotto hangout of Ariel. And just a few of the artifacts that were being attached to it.

Happy Mother's Day
In honour of Mother's Day, I thought I would post a pretty photo of my sweet girl, Desi who I treat better than most people treat their children. This is her at the cottage....
And also a photo of me and my mom. Without her, I would not exhist, and for that I thank her a great deal. Happy Mother's Day. For good or bad, your mom helped get you here. Thank her for it.

No one can tell it like Edward Gorey

This Has Been My Week
So this is a taste of my week.
It has been a week of trips to the overcast beach with my dog Desi, painting silk, going to the opera, obsessing about LOST and BSG, and just generally being silly. Not terribly exciting, I know, but it is mine and I thought it was a-okay, except for the crappy ass traffic getting to and from work.
But I'm going to try to forget about that. It's the only way I will manage to do it again next week. I shouldn't complain, I'm going against traffic. My house is in the city downtown (Toronto is a bit like New York in that people live in the core of the city), but my work is just outside of it.
My dog, Desi, is 10. I have had her since she was a wee pup of 4 weeks old. She is still mostly energetic and, as always, a bit of a delicate flower for such a big dog. The beach and snow are her two favorite things, so she's pretty happy all year round.
I took my dad to see his very first opera. I chose a pretty fun one, The Barber of Seville, and it was hilarious and pops actually enjoyed it. I think even he was surprised. He's all about Rock and Roll, but he's willing to experiment more in his older years.
Okay, this is boring, and I'm really not awake quite yet. I just really wanted to practice a bit and try posting some photos. Oh, by the way, that last one is me. One of my many portraits of specimen 'proptartius artiflakium', this is one at work with my ear protection on. I figure if you have to wear it, it may as well be fun. I am planning on starting a whole line of fashionable safety gear.
